I am interested in information about the family of Marsham LUCAS(9/5/1801-6/24/1898) in Warren County. I believe he was born inKentucky, moved to Warren County in 1830, and was instrumentalin laying out the town of Monmouth. I believe his wife, CynthiaAnn WHITMAN (3/2/1805-10/17/1837) died there, as did Marsham. Some of their children, including my great great grandfather,Albert Whitfield LUCAS (10/24/1827-4/6/1893), his brother, ThomasHartzwell LUCAS, and sister, Sarah Elizabeth LUCAS (1/28/1830-1871), crossed the plains to Polk County, Oregon, in 1852. Albert'swife, Elizabeth Frances MURPHY (10/28/1832-1914), and father-in-law John Ecles MURPHY (10/16/1806-1876), crossed the Oregon trailtogether. Albert and Thomas, together with several other menfrom Monmouth, Illinois, laid out the town of Monmouth, Oregon,in Polk County, and founded Christian College, which is todayWestern Oregon State College. I have a great deal of informationabout the families in Oregon, but would like to know more aboutMarsham and his wife, as well as the rest of the family thatremained in Illinois. Any such information would be greatlyappreciated.

Looking for information on Verna SMITHERS WILLETS. She was born @ 1897 the daughter of James & Mary WIXSON SMITHERS. She was the adopted daughter of Benjamin and Sarah ROWLAND CHURCHILL. She married an R. WILLETTS who owned some kind of business. The last time I find her is at the death of her adopted mother in Oct. 1930, that's all the information I have. I am researching the Peter BUTLER/Rachel MURPHY family. They came to Warren Co. in 1828-1829 from Kentucky, settling near Monmouth. In 1853, Peter and Rachel and six of their ten children moved to Polk Co. Oregon. William Cook Butler, John Murphy Butler, Joseph W. Butler, and James Whitman Butler remained in Warren Co. Did Peter have siblings, possibly brothers John, James? If you have information on this family, please contact me.

Looking for information on the LEE, John Family. Married Margaret O'BRIEN in Warren Co., in 1869John emigrated from Ireland around 1856-1868 and settled in Warren County in a place called Cork Street. This "village" was about 4 miles south of Alexis on the road to Old US 34. Several other Irish immigrant families lived in Cork Street. They were the O'BRIENs, BOOZANs, FISHERs, CLUTES, ADCOCKs, BRITTs, and BRIDEs. Looking for any information on Cork Street and the families who lived there. Would especially like to have photos of Cork Street.

Surnames involved are: CROSIER, ELDRIDGE, GILLETT & KNOWLTON. Ephraim KNOWLTON (b. 1795, Rowe, Massachusetts) and his wife Sally ELDRIDGE (b. allegedly in 18 Mar 1800 in Charlmont, Mass.) came to the Roseville area in mid 1850's from Rowe, MA , after spending some time in Ashtabula County, Ohio. Ephraim allegedly died in Roseville on 4 Dec 1856. Would like to confirm his death date and place of burial. Also the date of death, place of death and place of burial of Sally ELDRIDGE KNOWLTON. There are ELDRIDGE's buried on the northwest section of the Roseville Cemetery who very well may be connected to Sally. They may also be related to the first wife of John Clark KNOWLTON, Ephraim and Sally's son. Her name was Elvira ELDRIDGE KNOWLTON (d. in 1853 at the age of 35, near Roseville) and is buried in the the northwest section of the Roseville Cemetery (just north of several ELDRIDGE graves) next to her husband, John Clark KNOWLTON (b. 22 July 1826 in Rowe, MA). After Elvira died John remarried, but we've lost that information as to who, except recall the information indicated that the marriage took place on the bride's father's residence around 1854. John Clark KNOWLTON was a captain in the Illinois 11th Cavalry Company H. He died in 1863, not sure where. It is unknown if there were any children born to either of John's wives. We do know that at least one of the Roseville ELDRIDGE's was born in Ashtabula County, Ohio. Mary Jane KNOWLTON married Oscar F. GILLETT (b. 14 Dec 1829 in Ashtabula County, Ohio) in March of 1852 in New Lyme, Ohio and moved to Roseville, Illinois in 1853. They had nine children. Oscar died on 3 Nov 1912 in Avon, Illinois. Mary and Oscar are buried in Holeman-Olive cemetery just outside of Avon. We are interested in more information on Mary Jane KNOWLTON GILLETT. Also interested in information on Rhoda KNOWLTON (b. 16 Feb 1818 in Rowe, Massachusetts) who was married to Rodney CROSIER. They were living next to Ephraim KNOWLTON in Ashtabula County, Ohio in the 1850 Ohio Census, evidently moved to Warren County, Illinois around 1853. There appears to be a connection between all the above. They all came to Warren County, Illinois at about the same time period and from the same area of Ohio. We would be interested in communicating with any descendants of the above persons. We will share any information we have. Thank you. Terry & Lucy Hardy 200 Lindhardt Rd.
