I am interested in information about the family of Marsham LUCAS(9/5/1801-6/24/1898) in Warren County. I believe he was born inKentucky, moved to Warren County in 1830, and was instrumentalin laying out the town of Monmouth. I believe his wife, CynthiaAnn WHITMAN (3/2/1805-10/17/1837) died there, as did Marsham.Some of their children, including my great great grandfather,Albert Whitfield LUCAS (10/24/1827-4/6/1893), his brother, ThomasHartzwell LUCAS, and sister, Sarah Elizabeth LUCAS (1/28/1830-1871), crossed the plains to Polk County, Oregon, in 1852. Albert'swife, Elizabeth Frances MURPHY (10/28/1832-1914), and father-in-law John Ecles MURPHY (10/16/1806-1876), crossed the Oregon trailtogether. Albert and Thomas, together with several other menfrom Monmouth, Illinois, laid out the town of Monmouth, Oregon,in Polk County, and founded Christian College, which is todayWestern Oregon State College. I have a great deal of informationabout the families in Oregon, but would like to know more aboutMarsham and his wife, as well as the rest of the family thatremained in Illinois.
