Re: Dr. John MC DOWELL and Uriah MC DOWELL both associated withAdams cty,PA and both living in Gettysburg area in the 1840s and 1850s. I amtrying tofind out the parentage of John MC DOWELL and if he is the same Dr.JohnMcDowell in Warren Cty, IL in the 1860s and thereafter. Would there bearesearcher of McDowell families in Warren Cty and Knox Cty IL that know thebackground of Dr. John McDowell? The one in Adams Cty, PA : Dr. JohnMcDowell b.ca 1810, PA; m. 1839 in Adams Cty, PA to Nancy McPherson(1811-1840) of Adams Cty,PA. The couple had a son John ReynoldsMcDowell(1840-1840) and died in Adams Cty, PA several weeks after his mother. Anewspaper article mentions that Dr. John McDowell went West. I descendfromUriah McDowell who per oral history lived in Warren Cty from about1860-1870when he took his family to Decatur Cty, IA. Uriah does not appear in1865Warren Cty IL census as a head of household. Other families associatedwithMcDowells in Warren Cty (probably the eastern edge) are WISE; REDD; andOVERHOLTZER/OBERHOTZER.

My gr-grandfather, Francis CAVANAUGH lived Monmouth, WarrenCounty from at least 1861-1876. He married 3 times:(1)CatharineMILLS (2)Eliza FALON/FALLON 1861 Monmouth (3) CatharineFITZGERALD 1862 Monmouth. Catharine FITZGERALD was mygr-grandmother. They had 8 children, including my grandfather, Dennisb:1876 Taylor Co., IA. Family tradition is that Francis and Eliza hadtwins, one died at birth, along with the mother, and the other lived toabout age 12 and was living with a foster family at the time of death.Nothing has been found to support this story. Francis died in 1882 andhis estate was probated in Taylor Co., IA., however, no other record ofhis burial or death has been found. Did he die somewhere besidesTaylor Co.? Possibly he was a Civil War soldier - I'm told there issomething in the History of Warren County regarding aKAVANAUGH. Perhaps someone would be kind enough to check thatfor me. I would be very appreciative. He was a registered voter inMonmouth, Warren County, but I've found no supporting record.Francis and Catharine had 8 children, the first 5 born Monmouth.Francis also had one son born to his first marriage, James Hugh, someof his descendants still live in the area. I will appreciate any help atall.
